At the Friends of the Ocala Public Library, we believe a library is more than just a home for books—it is the beating heart of our community. As a passionate volunteer-driven nonprofit, we work hand-in-hand with our local library system to fund vital programs, expand literary resources, and create a welcoming space where curiosity can thrive for generations to come.
Did you know that the Friends of the Ocala Library provides funding for many library programs and fulfills many needs of the Headquarters-Ocala, Fort McCoy, Reddick, Sankofa, and Silver Spring Shores branches of the Marion County (FL) Public Library System?
You don’t need to be a librarian to help our library thrive. We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help sort book donations, manage our seasonal sales, advocate for library funding, and assist with community outreach. Whether you can spare a few hours a week or a few hours a year, your time and talents can help us create a more literate and connected Ocala.

Martha is serving her second year as President of the Friends of the Ocala Public Library and has been an active member for five years. Her dedication to library advocacy spans decades, having served as President of the Friends of the Reddick Public Library from 1988 until the organization disbanded in 2014.
A lifelong Marion County resident, Martha was born in Dunnellon and raised in Reddick, where she still lives today. Before retiring, she worked as a Child Find Specialist with FDLRS through Marion County Public Schools and also served as a School Social Worker.
When she’s not volunteering, Martha enjoys reading on her porch, listening to music, working in her yard, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. An avid reader with eclectic tastes, she especially enjoys mysteries. Her favorite author is Stephen King, and her all-time favorite book is Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.
Martha believes libraries are vital community resources and is proud to support programs and services that enrich the lives of Marion County residents. Her passion for libraries and reading continues to inspire her dedication to the Friends of the Ocala Library!
Thank you Martha for all you do!
